I have been hunting and fishing since I was a little boy. Hunting dogs have always been an integral part of my hobby. Today, the Karelian bear dog Onni accompanies me on hunting trips. The authentic nature and wilderness of Lapland are important places for me – you really feel like you live among the old pine trees – and you sense the smallness as part of the nature.

Completely unique hunting and fishing opportunities determined my place of residence to be in Utsjoki, just 100km away from the Arctic sea. Lapland's clear rivers, lakes and streams as well as untouched wilderness are an integral part of my life here in the North.

All seasons have their own charm. The darkness of the polar night is not the same as the darkness in the South. Hunting dogs have always been an important part of hunting for me. Today, I am accompanied by Jämtland Spitz Outa and Sissi in the wilderness.

My birthplace is on the banks of the River Tenojoki, on the edge of the Paistunturi wilderness area not too far away from our own hut Birke. My roots are Utsjoki Sami, one of the only still existing indigenous people in Europe. My mother tongue is also Sami. In my childhood, almost all food was caught and obtained from nature. Knowing nature, wondering around the wilderness, and respecting it are part of my identity. Nature gives if she has to give....nothing is taken from it. Today, four English setters and one Irish setter are of incomparable help on my hunting trips.

I am a photographer by profession. My work is mainly outdoors and in nature. A great inspiration for me as a professional photographer is the authentic northern nature – including wild animals and centuries-old pine trees – as well as humans and man's best friend, dogs – exercising and practicing together in nature. On photo shoots with me, you often meet Kaffe, a curly-coated retriever.
